WEP key security codes
« on: September 14, 2006, 01:21:16 AM »
When setting up a  Network between 2 computers/laptops,

there is something known as WEP key, which you have to

enter into the required box. My question is this.. why do they

make the WEP key security code so long. Mine is 26 digits.

Can anyone explain this to me as I find this subject very

fascinating and want to learn more.

Thanks in advance!!!

The reason why you have long digits code is that, the longer the digit are, the difficult its to crack. By algorithms that 26 digits will take more than 1000 times before you can crack it. I can not get hold of the proper formula use in calculating it now, but when 'am able I will calculate it for you. so its more beneficial to you when your digits are longer so that it will give  hackers longer time to crack into you system.

It depends on the configuration you will need the code to enter into the network. Therefore, you need same code to network you PC to Laptop. However, if you are having multiple users, then you might need diff username and password.
Hope that helps.
