As you describe your symptoms to a Doctor and he examins you,
he is already trained, how to assess what is wrong with you.
It is only when a Doctor is unsure and unable or suspects you might
have something wrong and they need evidence of what the problem
is do they send you for blood tests.
Imagine if you went to the Doctor and each time you were ill,
you get sent for blood tests, without any medication in the meantime.
You would become worse. You might get well, if it is something that
the body can heal on it's own.
Most times a Doctor will start you on a course of medication while other
tests are being done.
But it is simply not vital that we should have a blood test done every single
time before the doctor prescribes treatment.
Imagine also the cost involved, I notice you are in the UK ..I doubt the NHS
can handle everyone having blood tests before drugs are administered.
Imagine the work load. Tax payers would be forced to pay more taxes too.
For those living in Nigeria and other countries where they have to pay for
medical treatments, they would have to find more money for expensive
blood tests.
Doctors also prescribe certain medications or drips as a course of initial treatment.
This initial treatment is often a life saver or to stabilise a patient.
I hope this explains why you are not sent for blood tests before your Doctor
writes a prescription.
