Thou Shalt Not Take the Name of the LORD thy God in Vain

In Exodus 20 , the third commandment is given , Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain ; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Here in this commandment the Jewish people were told not to take the name of the LORD their God in vain. Or not to use his name in a light , irreverant manner that does not glorify his name but runs it through other sinful talk. So since God is God and is Holy and is our creator we should not treat his name like it is nothing or in a vain way or manner. Another verse says , Thine enemies take thy name in vain. And since before we are saved we are enemies of God in our minds and hearts toward God part of that is that many lost sinners take Gods name in vain wether knowingly or unknowingly but those who are believers on the Lord Jesus Christ should not do this at all. Since we know him personally as our personal Saviour and as the LORD God . Since he is our redeemer , mediator between God and men , our Great High Priest in heaven who has saved us to the uttermost who have come to God by him. So as believers we should reverence him , love him , and be thankful to him for all he has done for us in saving our souls from hell and giving us his gift of eternal life , and the forgiveness of our sins. As an old hymn verse was written , Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me , I once was lost but now am found , was blind but now I see. Written by John Newton who was a slave trader who got saved from his life of sin and became a preacher and song writer. So if you havent yet come to the Lord Jesus Christ as a sinner and trusted him as your personal Saviour do so today. He can forgive all your sins including taking God's name in vain and you can be guiltless when you leave your sin and guilt at the Cross of Calvary where Jesus died for all your sins and rose again the third day , and is alive forevermore in God's heaven and will save you when you repent and call upon the name of the LORD Jeus to save you and give you new life in Christ. For the wages of sin is death ; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23. Sincerely ; George  , www.HolyBible.com
